General

What is Authent?

Authent is a platform that helps creators verify, protect, and showcase their work by securely capturing the creative process from start to finish. It uses blockchain-backed verification to create a tamper-proof record of your project timeline, proving originality and authorship.

How does Authent work?

Once you launch the Authent desktop app, you create a project and select which application windows to track. Authent then captures screenshots automatically as you work. Each image is encrypted, hashed, and later combined into a single Merkle root hash. That hash is published to the blockchain, providing a permanent, verifiable fingerprint of your creative process—without exposing any images unless you choose to share them.

Who should use Authent?

Authent is made for anyone who creates—from artists, designers, and developers to freelancers, students, and educators. If your work is original, digital, and valuable, Authent helps you protect it and prove its authenticity.

How do I get started?

Download the Authent desktop app, create an account, and start a new project. From there, just select the apps you want to track and begin creating—Authent works quietly in the background.

Security & Blockchain

What is the blockchain?

The blockchain is a decentralized digital ledger that records data in a secure and tamper-proof way. Authent uses it to verify that your project's timeline hasn't been altered.

How does the blockchain protect my work?

Rather than uploading your actual files to the blockchain, Authent generates a hash of your project—a unique digital fingerprint—and publishes that hash to the blockchain. If anyone tries to alter the timeline, the hash will no longer match, making tampering instantly obvious. This guarantees the integrity and authenticity of your work.

What does the blockchain actually store?

Only the project's final hash is stored on the blockchain—not your images or files. That hash can be publicly viewed and verified without revealing any of your actual content.

Can I publish a private project to the blockchain?

Yes. Even if your project is private, you can still publish a blockchain-verified record. The public will only see the hash, not your actual files or screenshots.

Do I lose ownership of my work by putting it on the blockchain?

No. You retain full ownership and control. Publishing a hash to the blockchain is like creating a digital certificate of authenticity—it doesn't transfer rights or expose your content.

Project & App Usage

What types of projects can I track with Authent?

Any digital creative process: design, illustration, animation, writing, software development, music production, presentations—anything where visual steps or iterations matter. You can track any application that runs on your desktop.

What file formats or programs does Authent support?

Authent doesn't rely on file formats. It works at the application level, capturing visual activity from nearly any desktop software—from Figma and Photoshop to VS Code or Blender. If you can see it, Authent can track it.

Can I use Authent for non-digital work?

Coming soon. We're working on a mobile app that allows hands-on creators—like painters, musicians, or makers—to record their process through video or time-lapse photography. This will also be hashed and blockchain-verified.

Can I redact or delete screenshots?

Yes, you can redact or remove individual screenshots before publishing a project. However, once a project is published, it becomes permanent and unchangeable.

Can I modify a project after it's published to the blockchain?

No. Once published, the timeline is locked as a permanent record. You can still create new versions or spin off future iterations, but the original cannot be altered.

Can I delete a project that hasn't been published?

Yes. Projects are fully editable and deletable before they're published.

Can I export or download my project timeline?

Yes. You can export your timeline as a local archive, including screenshots and timestamps. This is useful for documentation, personal backups, or offline presentation.

Who can see my screenshots and project data?

Only you and the people you explicitly share access with. The public blockchain record contains only the final hash, not any viewable images or files.

What's the difference between Playback and Inspect Mode?

Playback Mode presents your project like a video, showing how your work evolved over time. Inspect Mode shows your timeline as a grid of screenshots, allowing viewers to zoom in and analyze each moment in detail.

How much storage is included in each plan?

Each plan includes a base amount of cloud storage for encrypted screenshots. Free-tier users get limited space suitable for small projects. Paid plans include more storage, and additional space can be purchased if needed.

Sharing & Visibility

How does sharing work?

You can generate a unique view-only link for each project. You control whether someone can see it in Playback Mode (like a video) or Inspect Mode (as a grid of screenshots).

What are the public and private sharing options?

Free-tier projects are public by default and can be explored by anyone on the Explore page. Paid-tier projects are private by default—you choose who sees them. Even private projects can be blockchain-verified without revealing any of the actual data.

How does real-time sharing work?

If enabled, others can watch your project timeline evolve as you create it. You can pause or stop sharing at any time.

Can I make a project private after it's been shared publicly?

Yes, for sharing links or visibility in the Explore page. But once a project is published to the blockchain, its hash will always remain as a public, unchangeable record.

Can I switch a project from public to private (or vice versa)?

Yes. You can toggle the visibility of any project between public and private before or after sharing. However, this does not affect the blockchain record, which remains permanently verifiable regardless of project visibility.
